Section B（3a-Self Check）

Teaching Aims	Language goals     Learn how to write a passage about your town and the best     places / things there. Key words and phrases crowded, uncomfortable, street performers, read or relax, take walks. Key sentences 1. Greenwood Park is the best place to go to on weekends. 2. However, the place where you can enjoy your time the most   quietly is at one of the small coffee shops near the park.

Teaching Procedures	Tips
Step 1 Lead in
The T can have a quiz in class about some geographical facts.For example:    What is the longest wall in the world?    What is the highest mountain in the world?    What is the lowest basin in the world?    Which country has the biggest population in the world?    What language has the most speakers in the world?   ... Ss pay attention to the superlatives and try to answer these questions. At last, the T can present the correct answers to these questions so that Ss can have a better understanding of the world.
Step 2Presentation
3a This activity is to prepare Ss to write using the target language. The T may want to have Ss compete to be the first to fill in the blanks in 3a. One way to do this is to have Ss stand and fill in the answers. When a student finishes, the student should sit down.In this way, the T can more effectively gauge the language levels of the various Ss. Then the T check the answers as a class. Answers: the best, (the) fastest,the most crowded, the most creative, (the) most quietly. The T can also make Ss answer the following question so that Ss can figure out the logic and structure of the passage. Why does the writer go to Greenwood Park? To meet friends. To see the street performers. To read or relax in one of the small coffee shops near the park. 3b     The activity is to let Ss use the target language to communicate about themselves. It may help Ss to get started with brainstorming activity 3b by first brainstorming as a class. This can be done in several ways including the following: The T may want to write best school on the board and then elicit from Ss several more best places/things and write those places/things on the board. The T may also want to have Ss work in pairs and compete to be   the first pair in class to brainstorm five best places/things.
Step 3 Writing
3c       After Ss have brainstormed paragraph details and before Ss begin to write, it may be a good idea for the T to review with Ss the parts of the paragraph. Suggested Answer: I live in Zhouzhuang in Jiangsu Province. It is one of the oldest and most beautiful towns in China. There aren't many roads in Zhouzhuang, and I think that's the best thing about this town. We don’t take cars or buses because we use boats to get around in the town. Many people visit the town throughout the year, and they enjoy taking a boat trip to see the entire town. There are many special snacks for visitors to buy in Zhouzhuang, such as sesame(芝麻) cakes and walnut(胡桃) cakes. Visitors should also try the Wansan pork shank, the most famous dish in Zhouzhuang. To me, the best place to eat Wansan pork shank is my father's restaurant. It is in the center of the town and everyone knows. It is very crowded in summer. 4     The activity is to let Ss use the target language to communicate about themselves.The T may want to make Ss have a free talk about the cities they know in China. Then Ss can work in pairs to decide which city they think is the best and explain the reasons. Each pair should have five reasons. For Example: Chengdu is the capital of Sichuan province. I think it's the most comfortable city. Because people there enjoy their life slowly. And the food is the most delicious and popular. What's more, there is the most famous and cutest animal. Do you know what it is?
Step 4Self Check
The part of Self Check is to provide a comprehensive review of key vocabulary and functions presented in the unit. 1. Have Ss look at the Self Check activities. 2.Read aloud the prompts in the textbook and the words in the boxes. 3.Model the activities if necessary. 4. Give Ss time to do the activities and compare their work with a partner. 5. Elicit answers from the Ss and write them on the board. Answers: 1.the cheapest 2.the most popular  3.(the) most comfortably  4.the worst  5.the best   2.   1. Town Cinema is the most expensive./ Movie World is the cheapest cinema. 2. Movie World has the cheapest tickets. 3.Screen City is more popular than Town Cinema . 4. Screen City is the most popular. 5. Movie World has the most comfortable seats.
Step 5  Summary & Homework	The homework can be varied with the specific conditions.
Summary  The T can encourage Ss to summarize the key points of this class to help Ss consolidate the knowledge. Homework:     Preview Unit 5 Section A (1A-1C). Do the exercises in students’ book.
Teaching Reflection	In the last period of the unit, the students should use the new items they have learned to practice writing. And before writing practice, students should learn how to figure out the structure of a passage and organize a passage.The T can make full use of the sample to help students.After writing, the teacher can ask the students to correct and polish the passage they write together, which will help to foster their spirit of cooperation.
