|
Teaching Procedures
| Tips
| Step 1 Revision
| | - The T can guide Ss to review the good ways of learning English
- and make a summary. The T may use the prompt:
What good ways of learning English have we learned in this unit? Let’s read through the unit again quickly and do a summary.
- by watching English programs
- by asking the teacher for help
- by doing exercises and reading a lot
- by listening to a tape and repeating out loud
- by working with friends / a group
- by explaining the information to another student
- by writing for just the key words
- by trying many times and learning from mistakes
- by writing e-mails to pen pals
| | Step 2 Presentation & Writing
| | - This activity is to prepare Ss for the subsequent writing activity by giving them the opportunity to consolidate the ideas they have gathered so far. Instead of asking Ss to do this activity individually, the T may get Ss to do this as a class activity by first asking Ss to brainstorm ideas on best ways to learn English and why. The T can
- write these ideas on the board. Ss can then chose three ways from the list on the board and fill in their individual charts in 3a.
- Reading English books If you read English books that are well-written and show good use of the language, you can learn many new words and see how they are used. If you like to read, you can learn English by reading well-known storybooks like Harry Potter or simplified versions of famous books like Pride and Prejudice.
- 3. Watching English movies If you watch English movies, you can practice listening to natural speech and you can use the storyline, body language, actions and facial expressions to improve your understanding. If you like to watch movies, you can learn English by watching popular movies like Hunger Games and Kung Fu Panda.
- The T make Ss read the expressions in 3b at first and then finish the writing task. Then the T can invite some Ss to share their writings and make the assessments.
- There are three good ways to learn English. One way is being interested in what you are doing. If you are interested in something, your brain will be more active and you will be more focused. If you like music, I think you should listen to English songs. If you do this, you will be able to improve your pronunciation.
- It is also a good idea to read English books because well-written books can teach you many new words and how they are used. You could try to improve your English by watching English movies. This will help you to improve your listening and speaking skills and you will have a chance to listen to natural speech.
- I hope these three ways will work well for you!
| | Step 3Self Check
| | - This part is to check Ss’ understanding to the key expressions and functions of this unit. It can also practice the Ss’ comprehensive skills . The T can ask Ss to read these words first and make sure all of them can understand these expressions. Then Ss can be asked to finish the task on their own. At last, the T present the correct answer.
- develop, take notes, practice, remember, until, everything, prepare, worry about
- The T can ask Ss to read the sentences one by one and make sure they understand these sentences and then finish the task individually. Then Ss can work in pairs and role-play their conversations to check if their answers are right. At last the T can present the correct answer.
- The T can ask Ss to finish the task on their own and then guide them to have a discussion with each other. The T can make feedback to their ideas.

- Preview Unit 2 Section A (1A-1C).
- Do the exercises in students’ book.
| | Teaching Reflection
| - This is the last period of the unit.So it is important to get the students to use what they have learned in the unit.We can provide a lot of work to practice words and expressions about how to learn well.So the students learn to give advice to someone who has problems in learning.Writing is the most important in the period. The teacher could help the students write from oral practice and teach them to use the sentence patterns.
