I never  sat my  ll-plus test.I doubted if I would have passed the test. And, frankly,I just didn't see myself as a grammar-school boy.
Had I sat that test,I might never have met Cecil,an English teacher at the secondary school where I ended up.He put Shakespeare into my hands for the very first time.It was The Merchant of Venice. He told us to look up Act 4 Scene I and start reading. We all did,but silently.“No,no, not to yourselves!”he yelled.“Out loud! This  is a play, not a poem. It's life. It's real.”
I barely understood the lines, but I loved the feel of the words and sounds in my mouth.A 400-year-old writer reached out a hand to invite me that morning.I felt a sense of an internal me being released and being connected with something  mysterious, alien and exciting.Cecil made literature and language feel like a part of our lives.
Later,Cecil cast me in a play.I've never acted before.Soon after,I had the opportunity to attend an eight-day drama boarding class. This is where I took my first formal acting lessons.I found out later that Cecil must have paid for me.Before I left school,Cecil asked me if I'd ever thought of acting as a career. It made me laugh  because it was a ridiculous idea to me.But two years later,I was offered a place at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School, paid for by a scholarship.
Now, I'd say all my achievements today are credited to Cecil. He saved me when my education was failing and has without doubt been the most significant person in my life.If I had not met Cecil, what would have happened to me?I am so grateful for his belief in me.

Dolphins are social and intelligent animals. And,like the way humans maintain  relationships by hugging or giving a handshake, dolphins breathe together at the same time when they come up from the water for air. This shared act is important for creating social connections. But sharing the same air and area is also spreading an infectious and deadly disease among dolphins.
Janet Mann and other scientists are trying to understand the virus. They discovered it in the water off the American states of Virginia and Maryland. It is now spreading to other Atlantic coast dolphins.
Mann explains that the dolphin virus is respiratory(呼吸的).“When dolphins  breathe together at the surface, they're sharing respiratory droplets(飞沫)just like we do when we're talking or coughing on each other,”she said.
During her 35 years of studying dolphins,Janet Mann has noticed that even though dolphins have close friends, they visit other dolphins and leave the groups often. Following the social lives of dolphins in the Chesapeake Bay has permitted researchers to identify over 2,000 dolphin individuals. They can remember them by their special shapes and marks on their back fins.
Melissa Collier and Ann Jacoby saw two dolphins.A third dolphin joined its friends. All three dolphins came to the surface of the water and breathed together.  “This is typical, male behavior. The males stay in pretty harmony with each other. The females move at the same speed, but not as regularly. They do so mostly with their children,”Mann says. This behavior pattern might explain why more male dolphins have died in the outbreak of the virus.
Viruses are naturally occurring in the wild, but human activities in the ocean can make the virus worse by weakening environments and  populations even more. Pollution from carbon and plastics, limited food  sources, along with ocean warming  from climate change, all harm the animals. These stresses weaken the dolphins 'immune systems(免疫系统) .“So, they are extremely easy to be affected by virus  outbreaks,”Mann says.
28.What are Mann and other scientists trying to do?
A.Record dolphins' social habits.
B.Increase the population of dolphins.
C.Compare the viruses among dolphins.
D.Understand the spread of the dolphin virus.

A.Researchers.
B.Close friends.
C.The social lives of dolphins.
D.Over 2,000 dolphin individuals.
30.Why have more male dolphins died in the outbreak of the virus?
A.They breathe in more air than females.
B.They do more social activities together.
C.They come to the surface of the water more.
D.They are more sensitive to viruses.
31.What is the natural threat to dolphins?
A.Viruses.
B.Ocean warming
C.Limited food sources.

Laughter is a strong nonverbal vocalization (发声) ,which is frequently used to signal association, reward or cooperative intention, and often helps to form and strengthen social bonds. There is an important distinction between spontaneous (自发的) laughter and voluntary laughter. Spontaneous laughter is typically an uncontrolled reaction, for example,to jokes.Voluntary laughter reflects a more deliberate communicative act like conveying polite agreement.
Researchers from the University of Amsterdam with international colleagues examined whether laughter type influences the identification not only of individuals, but also of groups.Specifically, they tested if it holds true that group membership is easier to distinguish from voluntary laughter than from spontaneous  laughter. They also explored how the perceived positivity of laughter differs between the two types of laughter across cultures, with the expectation that spontaneous  laughter might sound more positive.
In their study, the researchers employed laughter clips(片段)that were  spontaneously or voluntarily produced by Dutch and Japanese individuals.Dutch  and Japanese participants listened to these laughter clips and judged whether the laughing person was from their cultural group or not; they also judged whether the  laughter was produced spontaneously or voluntarily and rated the positivity of each laughter clip.
Analyzing these data, the researchers found that listeners were able to recognize  group membership from both spontaneous laughter and voluntary laughter, and equally well. Spontaneous laughter was rated as more positive than voluntary   laughter across the two  cultures.“Our results show that listeners can recognize whether a laughing person is from their own or another cultural group at better-than-chance accuracy levels based on only hearing a brief laughter clip,”concluded the researchers.“Contrary to prediction, we found no advantage for the thought that participants would be better at identifying group membership from voluntary laughter.”
These findings add to the growing literature on laughter as a rich vocal signal  that can be used by listeners to make a wide range of inferences about others, from their social relationships to their identity.
32.What do we know about spontaneous laughter from the text?
A.People do it unconsciously.
B.It often serves a specific purpose.
C.People prefer it to voluntary laughter.
D.It is more impressive than voluntary laughter.
33.What did the researchers think of voluntary laughter before the study?
A.It contained very little information.
B.It told more about group membership.
C.It was supposed to sound more positive.
D.It was as meaningful as spontaneous laughter.
34.What were the participants supposed to do?
A.Link themselves to laughter producers.
B.Compare their laughter with foreigners'.
C.Identify the laughter clips in several ways.
D.Classify the laughter clips into four groups.
35.Which of the following is a suitable title for the text?
A.Our laughter can give us away
B.Laughter is a mixed vocal signal
C.Laughter differs from country to country
D.Our education background determines our laughter

The earliest confirmed use of chopsticks in China was in 1,200 BCE during the Shang Dynasty.Made of bronze, these earliest chopsticks 56 (use) primarily for cooking. Designed much57(long) than today's chopsticks, the bronze versions were capable of58(reach) deep into pots of boiling oil.

The red numbers on the clock showed that there was one quarter left in the game.Minutes later, one team would win the seventh-grade championship. The score was tied at 24-24.
Our sweaty team surrounded Coach Sanchez.“Pass it around and don't get boxed in," he warned. “When you're open, shoot.
We stuck our hands into the middle and said, "Go, Eagles!”
Back on the floor, Brandon had the ball. I was open, but he passed it to Cole.Cole had a great turn-around jump shot, but I was good at shooting, too. In fact, we each had had six points so far. But Cole was more popular, and the team fed him the ball.
The Kings took possession of the ball and tied the score. Then Cole was fouled (犯规)and sank his two free throws. That added two points to our team's score--and the score in my head. It shouldn't have mattered, but for once I wanted to outscore Cole. I wanted to show the team that I could be the MVP-the most valuable player.
The score bounced back and forth: Eagles 30,Kings32; Eagles 35, Kings 34. The score in my head kept bouncing, too: Derek 8, Cole 10; Derek 12, Cole 11.
Suddenly, Cole was on the floor holding his ankle, his face twisted with pain. The coach helped him to the bench.
Now I was going to be the MVP without a doubt. But soon, I found each time I tried to shoot, the Kings guarded me with two players. Thus, I could hardly score. Justin, Cole’s substitute, couldn't move as fast, and I learned how important Cole was to our team.
Now, our team scored one point less than the Kings. Only half a minute was left. “Stop for a moment!” called Coach Sanchez, and we ran off the floor.“We need points, guys,” said Coach Sanchez as we crowded around him. Wondering how, I suddenly suggested, "Let's try to pass the ball to Brandon and let him shoot.”

1.续写词数应为150左右;
2.请按如下格式作答。
I explained,“Nobody was guarding him each time they guarded me.”____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
