Unit 3 The InternetPeriod 1 Listening &Speaking＆Talking

This unit is about the Internet, which is used by most people around the world, especially the teenagers who are easily addicted into the Internet. Faced with the situation, the students should be guided to use the Internet properly. So this part ( listening and speaking ) is divided into two parts: Part A---ask about online habit, Part B ---choose the best app. By observing others’ behaviors to the Internet, students may reflect their online behaviors and even correct the improper online behavior. Part A is that Sam is doing an investigation for the three students Anna, Paul and Joe about their online habits: time spent online every day, online activities and the reasons for using the Internet. Part B is a conversation between Laura and Xiao Bo about choosing the right apps.
1. Students try to use definitions to understand the content of listening texts.

Part A Listening and Speaking--- ask about online habits
Step 1 Lead in--Small talk
Read the sentence of Bill Gates, and then answer the question: What does it mean ?
The Internet is becoming the town square for the global village of tomorrow. ---Bill Gates
It means that the Internet is making the world closer and closer; we can communicate on the Internet like meeting at the town square.

Step 5 Speaking---Work in pairs
Take turns to ask each other about your online habits.

A: It depends. I'd say from half an hour to three hours.
B: What do you usually do online?
A: I listen to music, stream videos, or look up information. And you?
B: Lots of things. I especially like to chat with my friends and family. By the way, what's your favorite app?
A: Well, English Fun Dubbing.
B: Why do you like it?
A: Because there are lots of streams and I can dub interesting English movie clips so I can learn English in a fun way.
B: Sounds amazing.
A: OK, let me teach you how to download the app.
B: Thanks a lot.
Part B Listening and Talking---choose the best app
Step 1 Before-listening
Look at the pictures and try to express them in English.

Step 2 While-listening
- Laura and Xiao Bo are talking about apps. Listen to their conversation and find out what apps they want.

A: I imagine that TV Me would be more popular. Everyone watches TV and I think lots of people imagine themselves as actors in the TV shows, so putting the two together would be great. What do you think?

This app keeps you updated on all your favorite topics. You can also choose to receive updates on the news or even lessons that you're interested in. You get a message whenever there has been an update.

B: My guess would be Hear It First because it’s both interesting and useful. You could find out more about the stories you like and make sure that don’t miss anything important. I believe both the young and old would like it.
