Section A(1a-1c)
Teaching Aims

  • Language goals  
  •   To learn to talk about consequences.

  •      1. Are you going to the party tomorrow night?
  •      2. If you go to the party, you’ll have a great time.
  •      3. If you do, the teachers won’t let you in.

Tips
Step 1 Lead in
  • The T can warm up the class by playing a song. While listening the song, the T can guide Ss to perceive the if-clause:
  • If you miss the train I’m on, you will know that I am gone.
  •   Then the T can present some pictures about different possible
  • situations. The T can elicit Ss to use the if-clause to describe the situations so that they can know one of the goals of the unit is decision making.   
  • To make Ss more familiar with the usage of if-clause, the T can ask Ss What will you do if you are happy/sad? And guide Ss to answer the questions using the target structure I’ll... if I’m happy/sad.
Step 2Presentation & Practice

  • 1a  
  • The activity is to introduce Ss to the unit goal and set the scene. The T can ask Ss to look at the four pictures and try to describing them.After Ss have done activity 1a, the T can check answers as a class.
  • Answers:
  •   c, d, b, a.
  • 1b  
  • The activity is to help Ss to recognize the target language in natural speech. Before listening , Ss can be asked to read these sentences and translate them. Make sure they understand what “do” means. The T can play the recording and make Ss do the task individually. Then the T can check answers with Ss as a class.
  •     Answers:
  • 1.let you in  2.be sorry  3.be late  4.have a good time
  • Then the T can analyze the sentences in the Response Column to help Ss have a better understanding of the target structure.
  •     At last, the T can play the recording again and ask Ss to try to imitate the intonation and pronunciation. Provide the tape script to Ss in need.
  • 1c  
  • This activity is to help Ss use the target language in natural speech. The T may want to have Ss work in groups of three todo activity 1c. The three Ss would have the following roles:
  • Speaker A
  • Speaker B
  • Acting coach
  • Speaker A and Speaker B should stand. The acting coach should sit. The job of the acting coach is to comment on how the performance of the other two Ss can be improved. For example:
  • Keep eye contact
  • No reading from the textbook
  • Facial expressions
  • Tone of voice
  • Rate of speech
  • Gestures
  • The Ss should take turns performing each of the three roles.

  • Step 3  Language points learning
  • have a great time 玩得高兴;过得愉快
  • have a great time 同义表达有:have a good/wonderful time,have fun 或 enjoy oneself。
  • 2.含if引导的条件状语从句的复合句,主句用一般将来时,从句则用一般现在时表将来。

Step 4  Summary & Homework
The
homework can vary with the specific conditions.
  • Summary  The T can encourage Ss to summarize the key points of this class to help Ss consolidate the knowledge.
  • Homework:
  •     Preview the conversation in 2d.
  • Do the exercises in students’ book.     
  • Teaching
  • Reflection
In the first period,we can tell the students the topic of this unit is “decision making”.The teacher should also introduce the unit goal—talking about consequences.The students should take an active part in listening.Most students can answer questions correctly,which increases their confidence and interest in learning English.In the dialogue practice,the students use the phrases they have learned and adverbial clause of condition guided by “if” correctly. However,some students have poor listening ability, and they may not understand the longer sentences when they do listening exercises, so they should practice more after class. We should also teach them how to take notes in listening. Meanwhile, we can ask the students to make their own conversations.
