Step 1 Warming up

  • Show Jane’s diary to Ss. Ask them to answer the questions:
  • Where did Jane go?
  • When did she go?
  • Who did she go with?
  • What did she do ?
  • Show PPT P6 to help Ss review the passage.
Step 2 Presentation & Reading
  • 3a
  • In activity 3a, T may want to have Ss first work in pairs to decide which words can be correctly placed in each of the blanks. Then Ss can be asked to create their diary entries choosing from those words that have been identified.
  • Suggested answers: August, hot and sunny, Tian’anmen Square / the Palace Museum / a Beijing hutong, interesting / beautiful, took some photos / bought something special, I learned something important, Beijing duck, delicious, tired
  • 3b
  • T may want to have Ss first do activity 3b in the following way before writing the answers to the questions:
  • Read aloud (and have Ss repeat aloud) the questions.
  • Confirm that Ss understand the meaning of each of the questions when they hear the question being said aloud.
  • Tell Ss that they are going to remember a real vacation or make up a dream vacation.
  • Tell Ss to close their eyes.
  • Ask the questions in the textbook and any other questions that will help Ss to visualize in the minds their vacation.

  • Ask Ss to write a travel diary like Jane’s on page 5. Tell them that they can use notes in 3b.
  • (Tip: Explain the contents from PPT P11-16, teach Ss how to write a diary, e.g. the structure of a diary, the details they need to pay attention to.)

  • In order to make this activity more successful, give Ss more details about their roles by having Ss answer the following questions before they interact with others:
  • What country are you from? What is your nationality?
  • What languages do you speak?
  • What is your name?
  • Where do you live?
  • What do you like to do in your free time?
  • On vacation, do you prefer to spend time in a city or in a countryside?
  • Do you like to try new things / new foods / new activities?

  • Exercise 1
  • Ask Ss to complete the conversations with the correct words in the box.
  • Answers:
  • 1. anyone  2. No one  3. Nothing  4. anything, Everything  5. Everyone
  • Exercise 2
  • Ask Ss to complete the passage with the correct forms of the verbs in brackets.
  • Answers: did, went, started, took, found, were not / weren’t, were, told, went, jumped, started, forgot
Step 3Language points learning
  • dislike v. & n. 不喜爱(的事物);厌恶(的事物)
  • dislike也可以作可数名词,意为“不喜爱的事物;厌恶的事物”。
  • tell sb. to do sth. 告诉某人做某事; 其否定形式为tell sb. not to do sth.告诉某人不要做某事。
  • keep doing sth. 继续/重复做某事; keep doing sth. 指一直处于某种状态或持续某个动作。
  • keep的其他常见用法还有:
  • keep+adj. 保持......
  • keep sb./sth.+adj. 让某人/某物......处于某种状态
  • keep sb./sth.+介词短语 让某人/某物处于某个位置
  • keep sb./sth. doing sth. 让某人 / 某物一直做某事
  • Step 4 Summary & Homework

  • Work on your diary entry and make sure there are no mistakes. Then, write it down in your exercise book.
  • Do the exercises in students’ book.
Teaching Reflection
In the last period of this unit, writing practice is the most important. We can use the model in 3a and the questions in 3b to teach the students how to write a diary. Meanwhile, we can guide them to write by using PPT. After writing, the students can correct and polish what they write together and tell which is the best. The students must learn to use the simple past tense and the first person while writing a diary. Besides, while we are practicing words and expressions about the main topic, the teacher should help the students review the simple past tense, the past forms of verbs and indefinite pronouns. And tell them to do more practice after school.
