Unit 1 Where did you go on vacation?
Section A(GF-3c)
Teaching Aims
  • Language goals  
  • To learn compound indefinite pronoun(复合不定代词) and reflexive pronoun(反身代词).
  • Key words and phrases
  • something, nothing, everyone, of course, myself, yourself, hen, pig, seem, bored, someone, diary
  • Key sentences
  • 1. No one was here. Everyone was on vacation.
  • 2. The only problem was that there was nothing much to do in the
  •   evening but read. Still no one seemed to be bored.
Teaching Difficulties
  • Let Ss learn the compound indefinite pronoun and reflexive pronoun.

Tips
Step 1 Lead in
  • Let’s talk
  • Ask Ss to talk about where they went on vacation and what they did.
  • Ss are encouraged to give different answers. But they can also choose to give their answers by using the pictures provided on PPT P5-6.
  • Ask Ss more questions about their vacations.
  • e.g. Did you do anything special / interesting?
  • Did you meet anyone special / interesting?
  • Did you taste anything delicious?  
Step 2 Presentation & Practice
  • Grammar Focus
  • Ask Ss to read the sentences in grammar focus. T can also encourage Ss to find out more sentences from the textbook or make new sentences containing compound indefinite pronouns.
  • 3a
  • Ask Ss to fill in the blanks with the words in the box and practice the conversation.
  • Answers: anything, everything, anyone, something, nothing, anything, anything
  • 3b
  • Ask Ss to fill in the blanks in the e-mail message with the words in the box.
  • Answers:anything, everyone / anyone, Everything, nothing, no one
  • 3c
  • For this activity, Ss should work in groups. Each S has to ask his / her group questions about their last vacation.
  • In a large class, T may want to fix the number of Ss with whom each S has to speak. For example, Ss can be divided into groups of six or ten. In this way, Ss can finish the activity in a timely manner. Additionally, after Ss have finished their charts, T could do a class poll and elicit how the charts of the individual Ss compare with the class results.
  • Step 3 Language points learning
  • 复合不定代词小结:
  • some, any, no, every与-one,  -thing, -body可以组成复合不定代词, 他们分别是:某人someone/somebody, 某事something, 任何人anyone/anybody, 任何事anything, 没有人no one/nobody, 没有东西nothing, 每人everyone/everybody, 一切everything。
  • 复合不定代词用法:
  • some系列的不定代词和some一样主要用于肯定句;any系列的不定代词和any一样主要用于否定或疑问句。
  • 修饰复合不定代词something, anyone等的adj , adv, to do不定式等要放在不定代词的后面。
  • 不定代词作主语时看作单数,谓语动词用单数形式。
  • no系列的不定代词可与not...any 系列的不定代词替换。
  • 反身代词小结:
  • myself (我自己) , yourself (你自己)是反身代词。表示“某人自己的词”叫反身代词。如:myself我自己, yourself你自己, himself他自己, herself她自己, itself它自己, ourselves我们自己, themselves他们自己。

  • Ask Ss to do the exercises from PPT P25-26.
  • Homework
  • 背诵Grammar focus部分。
  • 复习复合不定代词及反身代词的用法
Teaching Reflection
In the this period, we guide students to pay attention to indefinite pronouns. We can show the usage of them on PPT. Ask students to make a conversation themselves using indefinite pronouns. Invite some of them to show their conversations and see if they master the grammar in this unit.
When we deal with the grammar, wed better give students some written work as homework. For example, ask students to use indefinite pronouns to fill in the blanks of the dialogue. Also, we can get students to write a short letter to ask what their friends did last weekend by using indefinite pronouns.
