Tips
Step 1 Warming up
  • Look and answer
  • Use PPT P5 as an example and introduce the sentence structure “be going to” to Ss.
  • T shows pictures on PPT P6 and P7 to Ss, ask them to answer the question using “be going to”.
  • Look and say
  • Spin the wheel, ask Ss to translate the Chinese phrases. T can show them the answers after they have translated all the phrases.
  • Lead in
  • Create a situation and introduce the topic to Ss. Tell Ss that when somebody asks “Can you come to my party?”, they can say “Sure, I’d love to. ” if they want to accept the invitation and “I’m sorry, I can’t. I have to…” if they want to decline the invitation.
Step 2Presentation & Practice
  • Pre-listening
  • 1a
  • Ask Ss to read the phrases, then match the phrases with the pictures.
  • Answers: 1. a  2. e  3. d  4. b  5. c
  • While-listening
  • 1b
  • Ask Ss to listen and write the names next to the correct Ss in the picture.
  • Before Ss open their textbooks and look at the instructions for activity 1b, T may want to have Ss listen and take notes. Thereafter, T can have Ss open their textbooks, look at the names, and write the names next to the correct pictures based on the notes that have been taken. If necessary, T can also play the recording again.
  • Answers: a. Tim  b. Anna  c. Kay  d. Wilson  e. Ted
  • Listen and complete the passage
  • Show PPT P12 to Ss, let them to read the passage. Then, play the recording and ask them to take notes.
  • Ask Ss to complete the passage according to their notes.
  • Post-listening

  • Group work
  • Divide Ss into groups of four. Name the Ss with A, B, C, D. Student A needs to invite the other Ss to his / her party. Others need to give answers.
  • Tip: Ss should be reminded that it is very important, especially when telling a white lie, that the excuse for not attending a party matches the time of the party.
  • Summary
  • T makes a summary about how to make an invitation and how to accept / decline an invitation.
Step 3Language points learning
  • prepare for的意思是“为……做准备”。prepare 的其他用法有:
  • ① prepare sb. sth.=prepare sth. for sb. 为某人准备某物
  • ② prepare to do sth. 准备做某事
  • exam的意思是“考试”,做可数名词,是examination的简写形式。前面用不定冠词修饰时,应用an,相关短语有:
  • take / have an exam 参加考试
  • pass an exam 通过考试;考试及格
  • fail an exam 考试不及格
  • go to the/a doctor的意思是“去看医生”,相当于 go to see the doctor。
  • have the flu的意思是“患流感”,此处have表示“患病”的意思。类似的短语还有:
  • have a toothache 牙痛  have a cold 感冒  have a sore throat 嗓子痛
  • have a fever 发烧   have a cough 咳嗽   have a headache 头痛

  • Ask Ss to do exercises from PPT P24 to P26.
  • Homework:
  • 1. Preview the conversation in 2d.
  • 2. Do the exercises in students’ book.
Teaching Reflection
This is the first period. The topic of this unit is about “invitations”. We can teach the students how to invite friends to the party, how to answer others' invitations, and how to accept or refuse invitations. The teacher should create some situations to train the students' listening and speaking.
